I will preface this with the fact that the Kate Daniels series is one of my favorite Urban Fantasy series. I always love inhabiting this world, visiting with all the characters and seeing where the action takes them.
This is an adventure tale, which takes place in Eastern Europe/Western Georgia. The pack and Kate are going on guard duty, but it turns out to be more complicated than that. They will be paid with something called Panacea, which helps pack members recover when they go loupe. There were some heartbreaking moments related to this, which made it easy to see the pack's decision to take the job.
I really don't want to get into spoilers, but this was the weakest book in the series for me (but it still gets 4 stars which tells you how good the series really is). There was too much relationship angst, some of it contrived, but some of it real, which is a personal pet peeve of mine. There was an interesting new character brought into this rift, which actually worked for me, because I could actually see how things were working from this character's perspective.
