While not my usual fare, I really enjoyed this book. There are two stories being told, one set today about a writer who is writing a book set in 1708 in Scotland. I liked how the same location was used in both stories. The story was told in alternating chapters, and I never felt like one story was better than the other, so that I was never frustrated by the switching from one story to the other. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars, for me, was that I didn't really buy the strand that tied the two stories together, although I did like how it all tied together at the end.
