Something Strange and Deadly - Susan Dennard I loved this debut novel. It's set in the late 1800's in Philadelphia. The main character, Eleanor is 16 years old, and dealing with a dead father, a missing brother, a mother determined to marry her off, and zombies roaming the city. When she becomes certain that her brother's absence is tied to the necromancer raising the zombies, she contacts a group of spirit hunters for help.

I found the story fascinating, the situations believable (in a steampunky way!), the characters engaging, and the story ultimately resolved even though this book is the first in a series.

What I especially liked, was that not everthing was resolved in a happy way. It seemed way more believable the way it was resolved, and I look forward to reading the next one in the series.
