Partials (Partials, #1) - Dan Wells This was a 4 1/2 star book for me. The partials are a genetically engineered race, very much like a mix of Battlestar Galactica's Cylons and Star Trek's the Borg, who went to war against their human creators 11 years before the book begins, and essentially decimated the human race. They also released a virus which is preventing the survivors from having children who live more than a few days, so the human race is facing extinction.

Our heroine, Kira, is a 16 year old who is training as a medic in the maternity ward. She has a knack for research, and realizes that all the research which has been done is useless, unless she can get her hands on a partial to study, so she sets off with her band of friends to capture one.

I liked Kira and her band of friends, I liked the medical mystery that Kira was trying to solve and the adventure that she went on to do it. I agree that besides Kira, some of the other characters were not as well fleshed out, and the adults seemed to be mostly evil incarnate. But it was still an excellent read.
