I really wanted to like this book (it's set in Chicago after all), but I had some issues with the book, that really got in the way of my overall enjoyment. I actually enjoyed the world building. Maddie is an agent of death and escorts the dying soul to the afterlife. Her boss is a jerk, she has a gargoyle for a companion and a mysterious handsome man moves into her rental apartment. Over the course of the book, Maddie discovers many hidden talents, and that she is the descendent of some pretty famous people (angels, demons, etc.) The thing that bothered me overall, was that I felt the writing was too simplistic. I don't need alot of flowery description, but I just never felt anything.
